In 2010 West Fest acted on concerns raised by members on the future of the Wigtownshire Educational Trust Painting Collection. It had been subject to options raised by Dumfries and Galloway Council which included the possibility of selling the paintings. At a meeting with Council Officials, West Fest were given a very fair hearing and were delighted to be advised that following consideration, the collection was to remain within Council ownership. West Fest was also thanked by the Council for its offer to promote the Collection to as wide an audience as possible. Much of it was indeed exhibited by Stranraer Museum earlier this year.
The Collection is now on show, with other works kindly loaned by Stranraer Museum, in the Ninian Gallery at the Visitor Centre in Whithorn.
In total twenty five pieces, including oil paintings, watercolours and prints from the early 19th century to the present day, are in the exhibition held to celebrate twenty five years of the Whithorn Trust.
